3 on 3 League

LEAGUE RULES

Official rules for the Hoops College 3 on 3 basketball league.

Teams

3 players on the court per team. Rosters may carry up to 5 players. Teams must have at least 3 players present to begin a game.

Court

Half court. Standard basketball dimensions. Games are played to a set score or time limit as communicated at the start of each session.

Scoring

All baskets inside the arc count as 1 point. Baskets behind the arc count as 2 points. Free throws count as 1 point.

Possession

Games begin with a coin flip or rock-paper-scissors. After a made basket, the opposing team takes possession at the top of the key (check ball). After a missed shot, the ball must be cleared beyond the arc before an offensive possession begins.

Fouls

Players call their own fouls. Disputes are settled by replaying the possession. Flagrant or repeated fouling results in ejection at the referee's discretion. Free throws are awarded after a set number of team fouls per half.

Game Length

Games are played to 21 points (win by 2) or a time limit, whichever comes first. Time limits are communicated before each game. Overtime rules are announced at the start of the session.

Timeouts

Each team receives one timeout per game.

Substitutions

Substitutions may only occur during dead balls.

Sportsmanship

All players, coaches, and spectators are expected to follow the Hoops College Code of Conduct. Unsportsmanlike behavior results in a technical foul or ejection.

Standings & Playoffs

League standings are tracked by wins and losses. Playoff format will be communicated at the start of the league session.
