For Players in Training
3 ON 3 RULES
How we play 3 on 3 at Hoops College. Sessions are reserved for players who train with us — they are not open to outside teams.
Who Plays
Our training members only. Coaches invite players in each week — there is no public registration, no team entry, and outside teams and drop-ins can't enter. If you train here, you're in.
Teams
3 players on the court per team, with up to 2 substitutes. Coaches build the groups each week by level rather than age, so the teams change week to week and you won't have the same teammates every session.
Court
Half court. Standard basketball dimensions. Games are played to a set score or time limit as communicated at the start of each session.
Scoring
All baskets inside the arc count as 1 point. Baskets behind the arc count as 2 points. Free throws count as 1 point.
Possession
Games begin with a coin flip or rock-paper-scissors. After a made basket, the opposing team takes possession at the top of the key (check ball). After a missed shot, the ball must be cleared beyond the arc before an offensive possession begins.
Fouls
Players call their own fouls. Disputes are settled by replaying the possession. Flagrant or repeated fouling results in ejection at the coach's discretion. Free throws are awarded after a set number of team fouls per half.
Game Length
Games are played to 21 points (win by 2) or a time limit, whichever comes first. Time limits are communicated before each game. Overtime rules are announced at the start of the session.
Timeouts
Each team receives one timeout per game.
Substitutions
Substitutions may only occur during dead balls.
Sportsmanship
All players, coaches, and spectators are expected to follow the Hoops College Code of Conduct. Unsportsmanlike behavior results in a technical foul or ejection.
Scores & Standings
We don't track standings and there is no playoff bracket — this isn't a league, it's the applied half of training. Sessions are streamed and recorded to our YouTube channel so players can go back and watch their own reps.
